Matthew Barwick, Founder/Director

Matthew Barwick burst onto the Tasmanian construction scene as a talented young apprentice in 2004. His passion for building began as a child, learning the craft from his grandfather, a skilled joiner. This passion has been evident in every aspect of his professional life, from starting out as an apprentice to becoming a highly reputed builder and the Founder and Managing Director of Barwick Developments.

In 2007, Matthew was named Master Builders Tasmania’s Apprentice of the Year. The following year, he won the Tasmanian Training Awards Apprentice of the Year and went on to be a finalist in the Australian National Training Awards. In 2019, Matthew was recognised as Young Builder of the Year at the Master Builders Tasmania Awards—a title he went on to secure at the national level, further cementing his reputation as a leader in the industry. To this day, Matthew is heavily involved with Master Builders Tasmania, where he advocates for better industry practices and the support of young tradespeople. Most recently, in 2024, Barwick Developments—under his leadership—was recognised at the Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence, winning the “Renovation and Addition between $650,000 and $1,000,000” category for their Douglas Street project, which later became a national finalist.

He now boasts 23 years of experience in the industry, continuing to blend his love for problem-solving and creativity. This skill translates into his ability to lead a team and manage client relationships. As Managing Director, Matthew places great importance on the relationships he and his team build with clientele, and he is actively involved in all projects undertaken by Barwick Developments. His philosophy is “do it once, do it right”, and this guides every project.

Outside of work, Matthew is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys activities like biking, surfing and boating with his two young daughters.
